After becoming formalized as part of Pelham Bay Park in the late 19th century, Goose Island saw continued use for boating, fishing, and refreshment services well into the early 20th century. However, increased landfill, the building of rail trestles, and changing recreational patterns led to the island’s fading status and eventual semi-obscurity in Bronx geography.
